Custom Postcards
As the founder of HazelMail, a custom postcard printing and mailing service, I have seen all kinds of examples of custom postcards.
In the past, postcards were pre-printed. You purchased one, wrote in the message and destination address, bought a stamp, found a post office, and hoped that the card would arrive at its destination before you did.
Today, custom postcards are created by the user. You can upload a photo, type in the destination address and the message, and the card is printed, stamped, and mailed from a remote location local to the destination. You don’t need a printer, you don’t need to navigate the postal system while on vacation, and you don’t need to deal with the time and expense of international air mail.
Classic postcards for purchase were usually view cards of a location, greeting cards with a birthday or holiday message, art cards containing classic or originally art, or historic cards sending a commemorative message.
Custom cards are designed by you. You can be a business sending direct mail pieces or a proud dad sending photos of a newborn. They run the gamut of emotion.
I have seen some very creative cards being used in unique ways. Since you can upload any image, you can create any kind of custom post card:
- Recipe Cards: take a photo of that masterpiece key lime pie, type in the recipe on the message side (or insert it into the photo)…voila! You have a calling card to share with your friends who love to cook.
- Head Shots: Acting is a TOUGH profession. Your face is your money. It’s important to get head shots and resumes in front of as many people as possible. Create a custom postcard of your latest headshot, and you can begin a direct mail advertising campaign promoting your career.
- Save the Date Cards or Invitations: We are flooded with electronic reminders of events that ping your via Outlook or maybe directly to your phone. Depending upon your popularity, some of those invitations can get lost in the sauce. A postcard stuck to the refrigerator door doesn’t get lost on your desk and is a great way to remember and build enthusiasm for an upcoming event. Simply upload a photo and type in event details…and your set.
- DIY holiday cards: Live like an artiste! There are great images on commercial greeting cards, but something that has your personal signature on it is unforgettable.
The number of ways to use custom postcards is only limited by your imagination! Go make some history…create a custom postcard.
